Palace Assures Flood Control Probes Continue Amid VP Impeachment Focus
In a recent statement, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro emphasized that the government remains fully engaged in addressing critical national issues, including allegations of irregularities in flood control projects, despite the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte. This clarification comes in response to observations suggesting that the administration's attention might be disproportionately focused on the impeachment case.
Separation of Government Functions
Castro clarified that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is not the one driving the impeachment process. Instead, she noted that Congress is independently fulfilling its constitutional mandate in handling the case against the Vice President. "The impeachment is a matter for Congress to resolve, as per their duties," Castro stated, underscoring the separation of powers within the government.
Ongoing Investigations into Flood Control
Simultaneously, Castro highlighted that investigations into flood control projects are actively progressing under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Ombudsman. This agency is responsible for handling corruption-related cases within the government. "The Ombudsman's probes into flood control issues are ongoing and separate from the impeachment proceedings," she affirmed, ensuring that accountability in governance is maintained across all fronts.
Multi-Agency Coordination
To ensure effective governance, Castro explained that various government agencies are concurrently addressing different issues. This coordinated approach aims to uphold transparency and proper management without neglecting any sector. "We are committed to tackling all concerns, from flood control to impeachment, through the appropriate channels," she added, reinforcing the administration's dedication to comprehensive oversight.
By maintaining this dual focus, the government seeks to balance its responsibilities, ensuring that neither flood control investigations nor impeachment processes are sidelined in the pursuit of national accountability and integrity.
