Investigators from the Malubog Police Station are actively working to identify human skeletal remains discovered in a mountainous area of Cebu City earlier this week.
Discovery in the Highlands
On Monday, November 17, 2025, at approximately 12:30 PM, residents of Sityo Spillway in the mountainous area of Barangay Bonbon reported finding what they believed to be human bones. The Malubog Police Station 12, under Police Captain Kentbel Parcon, immediately dispatched personnel to the scene after receiving the report.
Forensic examination suggests the bones have been at the location for an extended period. Investigators estimate the skeletal remains are more than five years old, indicating they had been in the remote bukid area for a significant duration before discovery.
Police Investigation and Public Appeal
Police Lieutenant Colonel Joe Losbaños, information officer of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), revealed that investigators are now coordinating with Barangay Bonbon officials to determine if there are any recorded missing persons from the mountainous regions.
Authorities are making a public appeal to families who have been searching for missing relatives. "We are calling on families in the mountain areas who have lost a family member—they can come to the camp or even to the police station so we can check if the discovered bones belong to their relative," stated Losbaños.
The police have suggested that family members could visit the Malubog Police Station to help with visual identification or potentially provide DNA samples for comparison with the recovered bones.
Current Status of Evidence
The recovered bones are currently under the custody of the PNP Forensic Unit for further analysis and preservation. As of now, no family members have come forward to claim the remains or provide identification.
The investigation continues as authorities work to solve this mystery and bring closure to whatever family may be affected by this discovery in the highlands of Cebu City.
