NBI Cebu Cracks Down on Illegal Dental Laboratory, Arrests Four Unlicensed Technicians

In a significant enforcement action, operatives from the National Bureau of Investigation Cebu District Office (NBI-Cebdo) apprehended four individuals on Monday, April 20, 2026, for allegedly running an unlicensed dental laboratory in Barangay T. Padilla, Cebu City. The suspects, who identified themselves as dental technicians, were taken into custody after authorities confirmed their illegal production of dentures and braces.

Details of the Arrest and Laboratory Seizure

The arrested individuals have been named as Ronie, along with his assistants Lyndon, Paul, and Vince, all residents of Sitio Eagles in the same barangay. According to NBI-Cebdo investigations, one of the suspects claimed to be an assistant to a licensed dental technologist but had established his own business without proper accreditation. The laboratory, which had been operating for an extended period, lacked accreditation from the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) and operated without supervision from a practicing Doctor of Dentistry.

During the raid, authorities seized a dozen dentures, various machines, and equipment used for manufacturing dental prosthetics. The illegal activities extended beyond denture production to include the unauthorized creation and installation of braces, as well as teeth whitening services.

Legal Consequences and Public Warning

The suspects now face charges for violating Republic Act No. 9484, also known as the Dental Act of 2007, which regulates the practice of dentistry, dental hygiene, and dental technology in the Philippines. If convicted, they could incur penalties ranging from P200,000 to P500,000 in fines or imprisonment from two to five years.

Authorities have issued a stern warning to the public, urging them to avoid unlicensed dental practitioners to ensure safety from potential malpractice or health risks. This case highlights the ongoing efforts to curb illegal medical practices and protect consumer health in the region.
