P27M Shabu Seized, 96 Arrested in Western Visayas Drug Busts

In a significant crackdown on illegal narcotics, operatives from the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO 6) have successfully conducted a series of anti-drug operations spanning from April 1 to April 15, 2026, across the entire region. The intensive campaign led to the apprehension of 96 individuals and the seizure of approximately four kilograms of shabu, with an estimated street value of P27,191,160, marking a major victory in the fight against drug-related crimes.

Major Accomplishments and Arrests

During the two-week period, PRO 6 executed a total of 74 targeted operations aimed at dismantling drug networks and curbing the proliferation of illegal substances. The efforts resulted in the confiscation of not only the substantial quantity of shabu but also about three grams of marijuana, underscoring the comprehensive nature of the police actions.

Of the 96 suspects arrested, authorities classified 29 as high-value individuals (HVIs), indicating their significant roles in drug trafficking operations, while the remaining 67 were identified as street-value individuals (SVIs), involved in lower-level distribution activities. All arrested individuals are set to face charges under Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, which carries severe penalties for drug-related offenses.

Key Police Units and Their Contributions

The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) emerged as a standout performer in the operations, recording the highest volume of illegal drugs seized. IPPO confiscated a total of 2,264 grams of shabu and made 30 arrests, demonstrating their effective enforcement strategies and dedication to the anti-drug campaign.

Following closely, the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit in Western Visayas (RPDEU 6) seized 945 grams of shabu and apprehended seven individuals, highlighting their specialized role in drug enforcement. Additionally, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) contributed significantly by confiscating 592 grams of illegal drugs and arresting 41 suspects, further bolstering the region's efforts to combat narcotics.

Other police units across Western Visayas also played crucial roles in supporting these operations, which were driven by meticulous intelligence monitoring, coordination with partner agencies, and valuable tips from community informants. This collaborative approach ensured a widespread and impactful crackdown on drug activities.

Leadership and Community Call to Action

PRO 6 Director Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan commended the police units for their remarkable achievements, emphasizing the critical importance of their work. He stated, "The illegal drugs we seized could have further worsened the situation in our communities and contributed to more crimes and instability. Rest assured, PRO 6 remains steadfast and will continue to act decisively as we work toward a safer, drug-free region."

General Ligan highlighted the necessity of public cooperation in sustaining these efforts, urging residents, local government units, and barangay officials to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly. He stressed that public support is indispensable for collaborative initiatives aimed at safeguarding communities during these challenging times, reinforcing the idea that law enforcement alone cannot eradicate the drug menace without community involvement.

Reflections on Sustained Commitment

The accomplishments of the anti-drug operations reflect the sustained commitment of the police force to protect communities from the harmful effects of illegal drugs. General Ligan noted that these results are a testament to the dedication and hard work of officers on the ground, who risk their lives to ensure public safety and order.

As the region moves forward, PRO 6 plans to continue its intensified efforts, leveraging intelligence and community partnerships to disrupt drug networks further. The success of these operations serves as a strong deterrent to potential offenders and a reassurance to the public that authorities are actively working to create a drug-free environment in Western Visayas.
