Police Brigadier General Arnold Ardiente, the director of the Police Regional Office-Soccsksargen, identified the arrested suspects using their aliases. They are Sergio, a 36-year-old resident of Abaga village in Balo-i, Lanao del Norte, and Boy-Boy, a 40-year-old from Poblacion village in Sto. Niño, South Cotabato. The arrests occurred after police operatives, while enforcing local ordinances under the Safer City Project, noticed the two individuals attempting to flee upon seeing authorities.
Discovery of Contraband
According to General Ardiente's report, the police officers conducted an immediate verification and inspection, during which they inadvertently discovered several boxes of suspected smuggled cigarettes in plain view inside the suspects' residence. The two suspects were unable to present the necessary documents for the possession and distribution of the tobacco products, leading to their arrest.
The confiscated items included 15 master cases of smuggled cigarettes, with an estimated total market value of P641,760. This seizure highlights the substantial financial impact of smuggling operations in the region.
Post-Operation Procedures
Following the arrest, the suspects and the recovered evidence were transported to the Sto. Niño Municipal Police Station for proper documentation and the filing of appropriate charges.
