Malacañang Palace stated that it is too early to discuss potential candidates for the 2028 national elections. This statement comes after Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo confirmed that she has no plans to run for any national position in 2028, as she remains focused on addressing the needs of Naga City.
Palace Prioritizes Governance Over Politics
According to Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. remains dedicated to governance and pressing national issues rather than engaging in politics. Castro emphasized that the President's priority is addressing the country's problems, particularly the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, to ensure a stable supply of petroleum products. Additionally, the administration is focused on implementing government programs for the people.
Vice President Sara Duterte's Presidential Plans
Earlier, Vice President Sara Duterte expressed her intention to run for president in 2028. However, Malacañang reiterated that the administration's primary focus is on work, not politics, at this time.
The Palace's stance underscores a commitment to addressing immediate challenges and delivering public services, leaving political discussions for a later date.
