PDEA Busts Drug Den in Basilan, Arrests Three High-Value Targets
In a significant blow to illegal drug activities in the Bangsamoro region, law enforcement authorities have successfully dismantled a drug den and apprehended three high-value targets (HVTs) in Lamitan City, Basilan. The operation, conducted on Saturday, April 18, 2026, underscores the government's intensified campaign against narcotics trafficking in the area.
Details of the Anti-Drug Operation
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-Barmm) spearheaded the buy-bust operation in Kulaybato village, Lamitan City. The arrested HVTs were identified through their aliases as Kenji, 26; Toto, 26; and Charlie, 30. Their capture led to the immediate dismantling of the drug den, which had been operating in the community.
During the raid, authorities seized substantial evidence, including approximately six grams of suspected shabu packed in 13 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets, with an estimated street value of P40,800. Additional items confiscated were two mobile phones, buy-bust money, and various drug paraphernalia used in the illicit trade.
Legal Charges and Inter-Agency Collaboration
The PDEA-Barmm has announced that the suspects will face multiple charges under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Specifically, they will be prosecuted for violations of Sections 5, 6, 7, 11, and 12, which cover offenses such as sale, maintenance of a drug den, possession, and use of dangerous drugs.
This operation highlights the effective collaboration between different law enforcement agencies. The PDEA Basilan provincial office executed the mission with crucial support from local police and military units, demonstrating a unified front in the fight against illegal drugs. Such inter-agency efforts are pivotal in disrupting drug networks and enhancing public safety in the region.
Recent Anti-Drug Successes in the Bangsamoro Region
This bust follows another successful anti-drug operation just three days earlier, on April 15, 2026, in Cotabato City. PDEA-Barmm operatives, assisted by police, arrested four suspects and dismantled a drug den in Purok Honeybee, Poblacion 2 village. The suspects, identified by aliases as Tetet, 22; Ula, 24; Datu, 18; and Untong, 18, were caught with P3,400 worth of suspected shabu, drug paraphernalia, buy-bust money, and two mobile phones.
However, the primary target of that operation, alias Kuya, who owned the drug den, managed to evade arrest after detecting the presence of PDEA agents. Despite this escape, the seizure of assets and arrests of accomplices mark a significant disruption to local drug operations.
These consecutive operations reflect the ongoing commitment of PDEA and its partners to curb the spread of illegal drugs in the Bangsamoro region. By targeting high-value individuals and dismantling their operations, authorities aim to reduce drug-related crimes and protect communities from the harmful effects of substance abuse.
