A police officer in Bacolod City sustained a head injury after a violent, unprovoked assault by a suspect armed with a steel pipe and a knife on Monday morning, December 22, 2025.
Violent Assault on Luzuriaga Street
The incident occurred at approximately 7:50 a.m. along Luzuriaga Street in the bustling Central Market area of Barangay 12. According to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), the victim, a 48-year-old officer assigned to the BCPO and a resident of Barangay Sum-ag, was walking when he was suddenly attacked from behind.
The assailant, identified by police as a 58-year-old man using the alias “Juan,” from Barangay Bata, struck the officer on the head with a steel pipe. Without any warning or apparent reason, the suspect then escalated the violence by pulling a knife from his waist and attempting to stab the injured policeman.
Self-Defense Shooting and Aftermath
Facing an imminent lethal threat, the wounded officer acted in self-defense. He drew his service firearm and fired a single shot, hitting the suspect in the right leg and neutralizing the attack.
Emergency responders rushed both individuals to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. The police officer was treated for his head injury, while the suspect received care for the gunshot wound to his leg.
Ongoing Police Investigation
Police Station 1 has taken charge of the case and is conducting a thorough investigation. Authorities are working to uncover the motive behind the sudden and brutal assault. The probe will also determine the appropriate criminal charges to be filed against the suspect, who remains under police guard while hospitalized.
