The Senate ethics committee has determined that a complaint filed against a senator is "sufficient in form and substance," according to committee chair Senator JV Ejercito. During the committee's first hearing since the publication of its rules, Ejercito stated that they discussed "docket number one," which will now be sent to the respondent for a response.
Details of the Complaint
The identity of the senator being complained about and the specifics of the case have not been disclosed. The committee aims to meet again when the Senate session resumes on May 4 to formally discuss and possibly resolve the first complaint before moving on to other cases.
Other Complaints Under Review
Of the nine complaints being examined, Ejercito noted that more than half did not comply with proper form and content. He said these lacked sufficient information and did not follow the required "matrix," so they will be returned to the complainants for revision.
The Senate ethics committee continues its hearings as part of its duty to scrutinize complaints involving Senate members.
