The Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) has called on parents and guardians to closely supervise their children's activities after recording 56 crime-related incidents involving minors from January 1 to the present.
Majority of Incidents Are Vehicular Accidents
Police Lieutenant Colonel Paul Andrew Cortes, ZCPO deputy director for operations, said that vehicular accidents account for at least 30 of the reported incidents. Many of these involve minors driving motorcycles without a license or riding without wearing the required crash helmets.
Other Offenses Include Serious Crimes
Cortes noted that the remaining cases include offenses such as rape, sexual assaults, theft, and other crimes where minors were either offenders or victims. He emphasized that many of these incidents could have been prevented through proper parental guidance and close supervision.
The ZCPO continues to monitor the situation and urges the community to take an active role in keeping minors safe and law-abiding.
