Batangas school suspends classes over shooting threats

Classes at Batangas City Integrated High School (BCIHS) were suspended on Monday, June 29, 2026, after the school administration received reports of shooting threats. The suspension was announced via a memorandum issued on Sunday, June 28.

Precautionary measure for safety

According to the memo, the suspension is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all learners, teaching and non-teaching personnel, parents, and other members of the school community. The administration advised everyone not to enter or proceed to the school premises while the suspension remains in effect.

The school is coordinating closely with law enforcement authorities regarding the threats. Parents, students, and personnel are urged to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and rely only on official announcements from BCIHS communication channels.

Updates and vigilance

Further updates on the resumption of classes will be issued once the situation has been assessed and safety is ensured. The administration also called on students, parents, and staff to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious messages, social media accounts, or activities to the school or authorities.

This incident follows a tragic shooting on June 22 at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, Leyte, where three students were killed and 20 others wounded. The suspects, two students aged 14 and 15, allegedly carried out the attack. In response, the Philippine National Police has intensified security operations around schools nationwide to strengthen campus safety and support the Department of Education’s student welfare initiatives.
