Candaba trade center closed after ceiling collapse injures six

Mayor Rene E. Maglanque ordered the immediate closure of the Anastacio Gallardo Trade Center in Candaba, Pampanga, on Monday after portions of its plastic ceiling collapsed, injuring six individuals. The incident occurred at approximately 8:56 a.m., when sections of the facility's ceiling fell onto an occupied area of the building.

Immediate Response and Medical Attention

Mayor Maglanque stated that he directed municipal engineering and emergency response teams to conduct a comprehensive structural assessment and ensure that the injured individuals received immediate medical attention. Acting Municipal Administrator Michael V. Sagum confirmed that the six victims, who suffered minor injuries, were brought to the Candaba Municipal Infirmary for treatment.

Cause of the Collapse

Initial inspection revealed that the incident was caused by the deterioration of the plastic ceiling material. Mayor Maglanque said that municipal engineers are now conducting a more detailed structural investigation to determine the full extent of the damage and any underlying issues.

Closure Until Safety Certification

The trade center will remain closed until engineers complete a full structural evaluation and certify the building safe for public use, according to Maglanque. The mayor emphasized that public safety is the top priority, and no reopening will be allowed until the facility is deemed structurally sound.
