Lapu-Lapu Police Probe ASEAN Summit Decoration Vandalism

The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) has launched an investigation into the reported destruction of decorations placed along the streets for the 48th ASEAN Summit.

Police Colonel Kimberly Molitas, PRO 7 Chief of Staff and current ASEAN spokesperson, stated that all means are being employed to identify those responsible for damaging the decorations. She emphasized that government funds were used for the decorations, and therefore, they must be protected, and charges should be filed against the perpetrators of the vandalism.

The Police Regional Office 7 also reminded the public to cooperate in protecting government property, as it comes from taxpayers' money.

Colonel Molitas revealed that all CCTV cameras in Lapu-Lapu City are connected to the Multi-Agency Command Center (MACC), including feeds from Cebu and Mandaue, to monitor activities during the 48th ASEAN Summit. Police are now reviewing CCTV footage from every corner of Lapu-Lapu City to identify those responsible for damaging the decorations. This includes monitoring the deployment of police and military personnel for the security of delegates.

Earlier, Mayor Cindi King-Chan requested the police to identify those who destroyed the decorations placed in Barangay Ibo, which is along the convoy route for ASEAN delegates. In a social media post, the mayor also announced a reward for anyone who can help identify the perpetrators.
