Phoenix Suns five-time All-Star guard Devin Booker has announced he is switching his jersey number from No. 1 to No. 15 as a tribute to his father, Melvin Booker. The change was revealed on Father's Day, June 22, 2026 (June 21 in the US), and honors Melvin, who wore No. 15 during his NBA career and in international tournaments.
Personal significance of the number
Booker explained that the number 15 has always been a family symbol and a goal he has pursued throughout his career. “I’ve been chasing 15 my whole career. It’s always been a family number. Obviously (my dad) wore it and I looked at (him) as the blueprint for success,” Booker said, according to reports.
Impact on the Suns and fans
The jersey change is expected to be popular among Suns fans, who have associated Booker with No. 1 since he was drafted in 2015. The shift to No. 15 aligns Booker with his father’s legacy and adds a personal narrative to his already storied career. The Suns organization has not yet announced when the new jerseys will be available for purchase.
