Despite facing a 0-2 deficit in the NBA Finals, Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs are brimming with confidence as they head to Madison Square Garden for Game 3 against the New York Knicks on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 (Philippine time).
Spurs Aim for Historic Comeback
The Spurs enter Game 3 trailing 0-2 in the best-of-seven series. In NBA Finals history, only five teams have overcome such a deficit to win the championship, with the Milwaukee Bucks being the most recent in 2021. San Antonio believes they can become the sixth team to achieve this feat.
"I think the key is acceptance a lot of times, taking a step back, realizing all the journey that's behind this and what's ahead of this," said the 7'4" Wembanyama. "Just being OK with who I am, where I am, what I'm doing. This is everything that I wished for. There's really no reason to overthink it. This is what I'm built for."
Game 2 Heartbreak
The Spurs were on the verge of winning Game 2, but a crucial turnover by Wembanyama in the final seconds cost them the chance to tie the series. They suffered a painful 105-104 loss, and Wembanyama missed a potential game-winning buzzer-beater jumper.
However, the team quickly put the disappointment behind them to focus on the future. "Pretty much his message was just let the last two games go," said Spurs guard Stephon Castle, referring to Wembanyama's leadership.
The Knicks, who have won 13 consecutive games in these playoffs, have already warned they will not give the Spurs any leeway.
