3,000 PUJ drivers get P5,000 aid in Central Visayas

Nearly 3,000 public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers across Central Visayas received P5,000 in financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7 during a simultaneous payout on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Aim of the Assistance

The aid aims to help drivers cope with the impact of rising fuel prices. In a statement, DSWD 7 said the simultaneous distribution across Cebu was conducted in partnership with local government units (LGUs) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 7.

“The payout activity was conducted in coordination with partner agencies to ensure an organized, efficient, and smooth distribution process for all qualified beneficiaries,” DSWD 7 stated.

Distribution Details

The P5,000 Cash Relief Assistance (CRA) for PUJ drivers was simultaneously held in various areas in Cebu and across the region. Out of the total 2,776 beneficiaries, 848 drivers came from Liloan town; 968 from various districts of Cebu City; 661 from Lapu-Lapu City; 99 from Cordova town; and 200 from Mandaue City.

The payouts took place at the respective gymnasiums of the LGUs, as well as at a mall in Cebu City.

Part of Broader Efforts

The agency noted that this CRA is part of the ongoing efforts of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s administration to extend financial assistance to transport workers amid the rising prices of gasoline and other commodities.
