More than 517 households in Iloilo City can now claim official ownership of their residential lots at just P200 per square meter, following the release of Contracts to Sell for the San Juan Villanueva-Sian Housing Site in Molo District on June 22, 2026.
Affordable Path to Ownership
Through the Contracts to Sell, beneficiaries are given the opportunity to gradually acquire ownership of their lots over a period of ten years under terms designed to be manageable and responsive to their circumstances. The price of P200 per square meter reflects the original government acquisition cost from 30 years ago, with no added interest or markup.
“A true ‘Uswag’ city ensures that your housing site is safe, accessible, vibrant, and filled with opportunities,” said Mayor Raisa Treñas, who spearheaded the event.
Key Officials and Support
The signing ceremony was attended by city councilors, barangay officials, and representatives from the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort behind the housing initiative.
Mayor Treñas explained the pricing decision: “When I was asked by ICLHO head Atty. Peter Millare how much the payout value would be, I answered that it should be whatever the government paid for the land 30 years ago. No interest, no additional charges.”
Impact on Beneficiaries
This program provides a rare opportunity for low-income families to secure land tenure, which can lead to improved living conditions and access to basic services. The ten-year payment plan is structured to be affordable, helping families avoid the burden of large upfront costs.
