Bunawan Bridge 2 Southbound Closed for Repairs Until August

The Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) has announced the temporary closure of the southbound section of Bunawan Bridge 2 along Daang Maharlika Highway. The closure will take effect from June 17 to August 16, 2026, to facilitate necessary repair and rehabilitation work.

Traffic Adjustments

During the closure, Bunawan Bridge 1 (northbound) will accommodate two-way traffic, which is expected to cause travel delays. The CTTMO urged motorists to observe traffic regulations and consider alternative routes to avoid congestion.

Rehabilitation Works

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) stated that the closure is necessary for preventive maintenance works. These include partial replacement of the deck slab, installation of carbon fiber sheets on bridge girders, repainting, and application of reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings. The maintenance aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to ensure the safety and accessibility of national roads.

Previous Closure

Bunawan Bridge 1 was previously closed for 20 days from October 3 to October 23, 2025, for similar repairs. During that time, concerns were raised about traffic buildup, with suggestions for alternative routes such as the San Isidro–Bunawan–Mahayag–Cabantian route toward Barangay Ilang or Tibungco.

The CTTMO reminded motorists to plan their trips ahead and follow traffic advisories throughout the bridge rehabilitation period.
