Aboitiz Foods and World Vision Expand Project Omelette to Boost Rural Livelihoods in Misamis Occidental
In a significant move to enhance nutrition and economic opportunities in rural areas, Aboitiz Foods, through its subsidiary Pilmico Foods Corporation, has partnered with the Aboitiz Foundation and World Vision to extend Project Omelette to Tudela, Misamis Occidental. This initiative, which focuses on equipping communities with poultry farming resources, recently saw the formal turnover of egg production livelihood kits to the Makugihon Community-managed Savings and Credit Association (CoMSCA), symbolizing the community's stewardship through a key of responsibility ceremony.
Strengthening Communities Through Sustainable Poultry Enterprises
Project Omelette provides comprehensive support to farmers and aspiring entrepreneurs, including skills training, technical assistance, and essential resources to produce and sell fresh eggs. Each livelihood package under the Pilmico Livelihood Kit Program includes four egg machines with 192 ready-to-lay hens, two months' worth of poultry feed, an egg-weighing scale, animal health products, and ongoing technical support from Pilmico. These components are designed to help beneficiaries launch sustainable poultry operations that generate additional income while improving local access to affordable, high-quality eggs.
During the turnover ceremony on March 11, 2026, Greg Canoy, Corporate Social Responsibility Supervisor at Aboitiz Foods, emphasized the collaborative nature of the project. "Through collaboration with our partner organizations, the local government unit, and the barangay, we hope this livelihood will succeed and inspire members to sustain and grow the project," he stated. This initiative aligns with Aboitiz Foods' brand promise, "Together, We Nourish the Future," which guides efforts to share progress and empower communities.
Empowering Families and Fostering Economic Development
World Vision highlighted the project's role in empowering families and strengthening communities through sustainable livelihood opportunities. Rosevilla Cabasag, Program Manager for Mindanao at World Vision, expressed enthusiasm, noting, "It is truly a blessing that this livelihood project was finally turned over to our CoMSCA group, as it is a dream come true for us. This initiative will help the group earn sustainable income, provide the community with easier access to quality eggs, and contribute to the barangay’s economic development."
For beneficiaries like Erma S. Tabiliran, Chairperson of Makugihon CoMSCA, the project represents both an opportunity and a responsibility. "The quality of the hens and Pilmico feeds is very good. As 'Makugihon' means hardworking, we will work diligently with our members to make this livelihood successful and sustainable for many years to come," she affirmed, underscoring the community's commitment to hard work and long-term success.
Expanding Reach and Building on Past Successes
Project Omelette has been gaining momentum since its earlier implementations in Negros Occidental in 2024 and Zamboanga Del Norte in 2025. In October 2025, Aboitiz Foods, Aboitiz Foundation, and World Vision turned over egg production kits to three CoMSCA groups in Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte, jumpstarting sustainable poultry enterprises in those areas. The initiative continues to expand, with Aboitiz Foods now partnering with the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) to bring the project to Bukidnon. This March, four egg machine livelihood kits will be turned over to a cooperative in Mantibugao, further extending the program's impact.
Since its inception in 2014, the Pilmico Livelihood Kit Program has supported over 1,000 beneficiaries nationwide through collaborations with organizations like the DA, DAR, Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Micro-finance, Inc., and World Vision. Beyond egg machine kits, the program has distributed bakery starter packages, gilts, piglets, aquaponic sets, and quails, complemented by technical training to ensure the sustainability of agribusinesses.
Through initiatives like Project Omelette, Aboitiz Foods and its partners are creating shared value by enabling families to build sustainable incomes while improving access to nutritious food. This holistic approach not only addresses immediate livelihood needs but also fosters long-term community resilience and growth across the Philippines.
