BFAR Vows Uninterrupted ₱3,000 Fuel Subsidy for Fisherfolk Nationwide

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has firmly assured that the distribution of ₱3,000 fuel subsidies to fisherfolk across the Philippines will proceed without interruption. This initiative aims to safeguard their livelihoods against the potential economic impacts of escalating tensions in the Middle East, which threaten to drive up global oil prices.

Proactive Measures and Widespread Beneficiaries

According to BFAR, the fuel subsidy program was strategically established well before the recent conflicts erupted in the region. This preemptive planning ensures that support is readily available to mitigate any adverse effects on the fishing industry. To date, more than 10,000 fisherfolk from various regions have already benefited from this crucial financial assistance.

Streamlined Distribution and Future Expansions

In an effort to accelerate the program's implementation, BFAR has collaborated with the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) to secure additional funding promptly. Under the Fuel Assistance Program, each eligible fisher receives a one-time subsidy distributed via cash cards or vouchers. This method is specifically designed to simplify access to aid, particularly for beneficiaries residing in remote areas far from fuel stations.

Furthermore, following the support for the fisheries sector, the Department of Agriculture (DA) has confirmed that the government will extend fuel assistance to farmers who rely on machinery for their agricultural operations. This expansion underscores a broader commitment to protecting the agricultural community from economic volatility.
