DA Warns vs Misinformation on Swine Repopulation Project
DA Warns vs Misinformation on Swine Repopulation

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has issued a warning against the spread of false information regarding its Swine Repopulation Project (SRP). According to the DA, the SRP is a three-year program aimed at restoring and strengthening the country's hog population following the devastation caused by African Swine Fever (ASF).

Program Details

The project involves establishing a proper and safe breeding system from source farms to multiplier and production farms using scientific and bio-secure methods. The agency explained that the SRP is expected to help stabilize the supply of hogs and reduce and stabilize meat prices in the local market.

The DA added that the program works alongside existing initiatives such as the former INSPIRE program and the current Swine Industry Recovery Project (SIRP). The SRP also includes the purchase of gilts, or young female hogs, from accredited breeder farms, which will be distributed to multiplier farms for breeding and eventual transfer to beneficiaries.
