Davao's Floriculture Fair Blooms with 30 Local Merchants Showcasing Plants and Crafts
The floriculture industry in Davao is experiencing a vibrant resurgence as 30 local merchants gather to exhibit an extensive array of flowers, plants, and handmade creations at the Floriculture Agri-Trade Fair. This event, running from March 6 to 29 along the Davao Coastal Road near the Rotonda beside the Rio Carnival, has become a focal point for gardening enthusiasts and eco-conscious consumers alike.
Diverse Offerings for Every Gardener
This year's fair boasts a wide selection of ornamental plants, herbs, and spices, catering to both seasoned horticulturists and first-time plant buyers. The variety ensures that attendees can find greenery perfectly suited for indoor or outdoor environments, enhancing any living space with natural beauty.
Among the exhibitors, Jhovanie Salvacion from Marilog District emphasized the importance of understanding plant care before making a purchase. In an interview with the City Information Office, he advised, "When buying a plant, first check what kind it is, whether it can be kept indoors or outdoors, and when it needs watering. If we buy a plant, we shouldn't just neglect it upon arriving home because that would waste the money spent." His words highlight that plants are living investments requiring proper knowledge and attention.
Handmade Containers and Artisanal Ingenuity
Beyond the flora, the fair also features handmade containers crafted from abaca, showcasing the creativity and skill of local artisans. These eco-friendly products add a unique touch to the gardening experience, promoting sustainability and supporting Davao's craft traditions.
Evelyn Laviña, President of the Floriculture Industry of Davao Inc., added that plants offer more than just decorative value. She explained, "We invite Dabawenyos and visitors from outside Davao to come and see. Plants become part of your home, and seeing them can psychologically boost happiness, even during financial challenges." This perspective underscores the emotional and mental benefits of incorporating greenery into daily life.
Strengthening Davao's Floriculture Hub
With its diverse offerings, the Floriculture Agri-Trade Fair aims to inspire more individuals to engage in floriculture, whether as hobbyists or professionals. The event seeks to bolster Davao's reputation as a center for sustainable floriculture, encouraging community participation and economic growth in the agricultural sector.
As the fair continues through March 29, it serves as a testament to the resilience and innovation of Davao's floriculture industry, fostering a greener future for the city and beyond.
