Month-long road closure in Mandaue City begins for drainage rehab
Mandaue road closed for month-long drainage rehabilitation

A month-long drainage rehabilitation project has led to the closure of both lanes of P. Remedio Street in Mandaue City, starting May 25, 2026. The affected stretch runs from A.S. Fortuna Street toward Oakridge and is expected to remain closed until around July 6, 2026.

Closure Details

According to Hyll Retuya, head of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team), the closure covers the section from the corner near Jollibee along A.S. Fortuna Street to the Oakridge area and the vicinity of the SunStar printing plant. Although classified as a partial road closure, both lanes are inaccessible due to construction equipment and rehabilitation works.

Retuya explained that heavy machinery mobilized on-site makes it unsafe for vehicles to pass. The project is part of a National Government initiative to widen and improve the drainage system, aiming to prevent flooding and enhance water flow in the area.

Alternate Route

Motorists are advised to use an alternate rerouting scheme via M.L. Quezon Avenue, specifically the road near the Cabancalan Barangay Hall. This route will serve as the designated entry and exit point during the closure period.

“All traffic going in and out of the area will have to pass through the back route via M.L. Quezon,” Retuya said. He urged drivers to follow the advisory posted on Team’s social media pages and shared through local media outlets.

Access Request Denied

Authorities had sought temporary access through Oakridge to ease traffic flow, coordinating with Barangay Banilad. However, the request was officially denied. Retuya noted that while the roads in the area remain in good condition, the focus is on upgrading the drainage infrastructure.

Local officials do not expect major traffic congestion since the affected road is an access road rather than a primary thoroughfare. Motorists are reminded to adhere to the rerouting scheme for the duration of the project.
