The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) expressed optimism on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, following the approval of House Bill 8876 on second reading in the House of Representatives. The bill aims to extend the validity of PRC IDs from three to five years.
PRC Welcomes Legislative Progress
In a television interview, PRC Assistant Commissioner Lord Louis Valera shared the agency's excitement over the measure's progress. "The PRC is excited, of course, because this is our proposal, this is our initiative," Valera said.
He emphasized that extending the validity of PRC IDs would greatly benefit professionals. "The validity of the licenses will be longer, and, therefore, the frequency with which professionals need to visit our offices to renew their licenses will be less," Valera explained.
Background of the Bill
The House of Representatives approved on second reading the bill seeking to extend the validity of PRC IDs from three years to five years. The PRC ID is the official government-issued identification for licensed professionals in the Philippines, serving as proof of their eligibility and authority to practice their profession.
Call for Better Care of PRC IDs
Despite the positive development, Valera urged professionals to take better care of their PRC IDs to prevent rapid deterioration. "We advise our professionals, our transacting public to take extra care of this document," he said.
He also noted that professionals can request duplicate PRC IDs easily. "It is easy to request for a duplicate PRC ID for a very minimal fee," the official added.
Addressing Quality Concerns
Valera revealed that the PRC has raised concerns about the quality of PRC IDs with their service providers. "We have already raised this with them and they now have interventions," he said. This follows complaints about PRC IDs fading easily. "There are reports that our IDs fade easily," Valera acknowledged.
The PRC continues to work on improving the durability of the IDs while awaiting the final approval of the bill.
