Two drivers died and three passengers were injured after two motorcycles collided on the Provincial Road in Barangay Giloctog, Barili town, on Wednesday night, April 22, 2026.
Victims Identified
Police identified the fatalities as Edward Fernandez Cañete, 36, a resident of Barangay San Rafael; and Celso Cabalida Caberiana, 43, a resident of Barangay Giloctog.
Accident Details
According to the investigation by the Barili Municipal Police Station, the two motorcycles were traveling in opposite directions when the accident occurred past 9:30 p.m.
Cañete was driving his Honda Wave toward Barangay Japitan with his passengers: Kint Vincent Mari Montemayor, 28, and Sirmel Genterone Sibala, 46. Meanwhile, Caberiana was driving his Rusi motorcycle toward Giloctog with Gelmar Bayer Ogaob, 50.
Upon reaching the area, Caberiana's motorcycle allegedly swerved into the opposite lane, directly colliding with Cañete's oncoming motorcycle.
Impact and Response
Due to the force of the impact, all riders were thrown from their motorcycles. The two drivers sustained serious injuries, including head and body trauma. A rescue ambulance quickly responded after residents called for help.
All victims were brought to the Barili District Hospital, but the two drivers were declared dead on arrival. The three passengers are still being treated by doctors for bruises and body injuries sustained in the incident.
