A 35-year-old sales clerk finds herself behind bars after being accused of stealing from her workplace, an engraving shop in Cebu City. The suspect, identified by the alias "Angela," was arrested on the afternoon of Friday, December 19, 2025, following a swift investigation by local authorities.
The Discovery of the Theft
The incident unfolded at an engraving business located in Sityo Upper Kawayan, Barangay Sambag 2. According to the investigation conducted by the Abellana Police Station, the crime was discovered when the company's General Manager noticed a discrepancy in their accounts. A customer had made a payment of P3,660 via bank transfer at 12:40 PM on that same Friday, but the funds never appeared in the shop's official account.
The shop maintains a dedicated company bank account for all customer payments and transactions with regular clients. Suspicion immediately fell on the sales clerk when it became clear the payment had been redirected.
How the Scheme Unfolded
Instead of remitting the customer's payment to the company's legitimate bank account as required, the clerk, "Angela," allegedly instructed the customer to transfer the money to her personal account. This fraudulent transaction happened around lunchtime on December 19.
The owner of the establishment acted quickly upon discovering the missing funds. By 4:00 PM that same afternoon, just a few hours after the initial transaction, police officers had apprehended the suspect. "Angela," a resident of Barangay Labangon, was taken into custody without incident.
Legal Repercussions and Ongoing Case
The suspect now faces formal charges for the theft. During the investigation and arrest process, she reportedly refused to give any statement or confession regarding her alleged actions. The case highlights the risks small businesses face with internal financial controls.
The swift arrest was made possible by the alertness of the business owner and the prompt response of the Abellana Police Station. The clerk remains in detention as legal proceedings move forward, serving as a stark reminder that employee theft carries serious legal consequences.
