The Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund Inc. (PSMBFI) officially launched a new legal and travel assistance program for active police officers nationwide during a visit to the PRO-7 headquarters in Cebu City on Friday, July 3, 2026. The program aims to support officers who face legal cases due to performing their duties.
Program Details and Benefits
PSMBFI President Retired Police Lieutenant General Benjamin Santos explained that the program provides P20,000 legal assistance to any member with a case arising from line-of-duty actions. This covers attorney's fees and other related expenses. In addition, travel assistance is available for officers required to attend court hearings, especially when serving as prosecution witnesses.
For hearings within the city, officers receive P1,500; for distant locations, the assistance reaches up to P8,000. Medical and burial aid are also continued under PSMBFI.
Santos on the Need for Support
Santos emphasized that a police officer's work does not end after an operation, as cases often proceed to court. He noted the burden on families, stating, "Behind that member is a family waiting at home—a spouse, a parent, or children who worry about the trip, the expenses, the safety of their loved one, and when support will arrive. Through this Travel Assistance Portal, we want every qualified member to feel that they are not carrying that burden alone. We want them to know that help is within reach, that the process is clear, and that PSMBFI is ready to respond with greater speed, understanding, and care."
New Digital Portal
To streamline applications, PSMBFI introduced a new portal guided by the "FEA framework"—Faster, Easier, and Accessible. This digital platform aims to simplify the process for officers seeking assistance, ensuring timely and efficient support.
The program is part of PSMBFI's ongoing commitment to the welfare of active police personnel nationwide.
