The Davao City Bulk Water Supply Project (DCBWSP) is transforming lives in Barangay Cabantian by providing reliable, affordable water, ending years of high costs and inconvenience for residents.
Before the project, limited water supply forced families, especially in Upper Cabantian, to buy water from vendors at higher prices than piped water. Residents also had to wake up early to collect and store water for daily use.
Residents Celebrate Reliable Water
Now, with 24/7 water access, families save money and time. Barangay Captain Nilo C. Cabiles said, “Many are truly happy, especially those in Upper Cabantian. The people of Cabantian, especially in the upper part, spend a lot because you have to buy purified water for cooking and drinking. Now some have tested and tasted the water, and it’s okay for them.” He added, “We have indeed realized our long-awaited goal: the improvement in water quality.”
Project Delivers 300 Million Liters Daily
The DCBWSP, a joint venture between Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc. and the Davao City Water District (DCWD), delivers up to 300 million liters of treated surface water daily from the Tamugan River to DCWD. This supplements groundwater supplies, enhancing long-term water security for the city.
Cabiles emphasized, “Water is the most basic necessity for humans. Without it, how can one function in all aspects of life?”
Economic Impact on Barangay Cabantian
Barangay Cabantian, located along a major route connecting northern barangays, is becoming an investment hub. Cabiles noted, “The central point is Cabantian. Every time people pass through Cabantian from the northern barangays, they pass through here. It may be one reason why Cabantian is becoming attractive to investors.” He added that stable water creates a domino effect: “With investors coming in, it serves as proof that the area is promising, and then the people will have employment opportunities.”
Broader Economic Growth in Davao City
Davao City remains Mindanao's leading economic center. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, local revenue collections totaled P15.5 billion in 2025, up 13% from P13.41 billion in 2024, reflecting sustained business growth. Infrastructure like DCBWSP supports this expansion by ensuring reliable essential services.
For Cabantian, the project means families spend less on water, enjoy improved quality of life, attract investments, and gain confidence in a better future.
