The Regional Development Council (RDC) in Region 11 has officially honored six government projects for demonstrating outstanding performance in how they were carried out and tracked. The recognition came through the 2024 Search for Project Implementation and Monitoring Excellence in the Davao Region, known as DavPrIME.
Infrastructure Projects Praised for Innovation
Two infrastructure initiatives received the Best Government Infrastructure Projects award. One is the pilot Nature-based Vertical Helophyte Wastewater Filtration System installed at sites in Davao de Oro, including the MPLS-PAMO, White Beach Resort, and Toyozu Mountain Resort. This project was implemented by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Davao and the Provincial ENR Office of Davao de Oro.
The second winning infrastructure project is the Construction of the Vertical Helophyte Filter System for Wastewater Treatment at the Maa Slaughterhouse in Davao City. This was spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Davao.
Both projects earned accolades for providing innovative, cost-efficient, and scalable solutions to long-standing wastewater management challenges within the region.
Non-Infrastructure and Committee Excellence
In the non-infrastructure category, the award went to the Establishment of 3D-Artificial Clay Reefs (3D-ACR) in Pujada Bay, Davao Oriental. This environmental project was a collaborative effort of the Davao Oriental State University and the DOST’s Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Program.
The RDC-11 highlighted that these awarded initiatives were celebrated for their significant contributions to environmental protection, community empowerment, and sustainable local development.
Beyond specific projects, monitoring committees were also recognized for their superior work. The Davao del Norte Provincial Project Monitoring Committee (PMC) was named the Best Provincial PMC. It was commended for its comprehensive reports, rigorous on-site inspections, and innovative use of the Enhanced Management Information System (EMIS).
Setting Standards in Project Oversight
Meanwhile, the Davao City Project Monitoring Committee received the Best City/Municipal PMC award. The council praised its robust monitoring activities, institutional reforms, and the development of the Davao City Planning Information System (DCPIS). This system has proven beneficial to more than 50 local departments and offices, enhancing planning and coordination across the city government.
The awards ceremony underscores the RDC-11's commitment to promoting accountability, efficiency, and innovation in public service delivery across the Davao Region. By highlighting these best practices, the council aims to set a high standard for all government projects, encouraging others to adopt similar excellence in implementation and monitoring.
