Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon has made a firm commitment for the agency's direction in the coming year. On Monday, December 22, 2025, he announced that the DPWH will implement infrastructure projects with the right price, without compromising on quality and the efficiency of execution throughout 2026.
Quality, Speed, and Cost: A Feasible Trio
Dizon confidently stated that achieving a balance between proper pricing, high quality, and rapid construction is not only possible but achievable. "It's possible, the price (of the project) can be right, (the construction) can be fast and quality," the Secretary affirmed. This declaration sets a new operational mantra for the department, directly aligning with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to ensure public structures remain robust, reliable, and reasonably priced.
Blueprint for Success: Recent Projects as Proof
To substantiate his claim, Secretary Dizon highlighted several recently completed projects that exemplify this trifecta of goals. These include:
- The Piggatan Detour Bridge in Alcala, Cagayan, which was completed in a remarkable 60 days.
- The swift repairs and installation of tent facilities and smart city features at the damaged Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo City, Cebu.
- The renovation of school buildings in Masbate that were damaged by Typhoon Opong.
These projects serve as tangible models for the department's future endeavors.
Ongoing and Upcoming Completion
Simultaneously, Dizon reported that two more critical structures are nearing completion. The damaged section of the Bukidnon-Davao Road (BuDa Road) in Sitio Kipolot, Quezon, Bukidnon, is expected to be finished by January 6. Meanwhile, repair and improvement works on the iconic San Juanico Bridge in Tacloban City are ongoing, with the bridge currently open to vehicular traffic.
"Our priority now is to be able to replicate what we did during the typhoons, during the earthquakes. That will be our mantra next year and in the years to come," Dizon emphasized. This forward-looking statement underscores a strategic shift towards institutionalizing rapid, disaster-responsive, and cost-effective construction methodologies across all DPWH projects, promising a more resilient and efficient infrastructure landscape for the Philippines.
