The Department of Public Works and Highways Region III (DPWH-3) announced on Tuesday that it has commenced the Phase II construction of the Tulaoc Overpass Bridge in San Simon, Pampanga. The project had been delayed due to issues involving the relocation of power lines owned by electric utility companies.
Delays Caused by Power Line Relocation
According to DPWH-3, the implementation of the project was postponed because of complications related to moving the power lines. In a statement, the agency said, “Naantala ang pagpapatupad ng proyekto dahil sa mga isyung may kaugnayan sa relokasyon ng mga linya ng kuryente ng mga electric utility companies.” The agency did not specify which electric companies were involved.
Target Completion Within the Year
Despite the setbacks, DPWH-3 expressed confidence that the project will be completed within 2026. The Tulaoc Overpass Bridge was originally closed to motorists and pedestrians in February 2025 to facilitate restoration work. The project had already missed its original completion and reopening target in January 2026, as well as a revised deadline in February 2026.
Project Background and Impact
The Tulaoc Overpass Bridge is a critical infrastructure project aimed at improving traffic flow and safety in San Simon. The Phase II construction is expected to address structural issues and enhance the bridge's capacity. Once completed, the bridge will serve as a vital link for commuters and transport vehicles in the region.
