A tragic workplace accident in Cebu City has resulted in two fatalities and four injuries after a team of construction workers accidentally made contact with a high-voltage power line.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The accident occurred on the night of Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in Nevil Hills, Barangay Lahug. According to the initial investigation by the Mabolo Police Station, six employees of Kimwa Construction were installing a metal post for a solar street light around 10:30 PM.
As they were raising and positioning the post, the workers failed to notice that it had come into contact with a primary power line operated by Visayan Electric. The powerful electrical current surged through the metal structure, electrocuting the men at the scene.
Victims and Emergency Response
The two workers who lost their lives were identified as Limbert Lucero, 32, from Catmon City, and Juliven Lucero, 23. Police reported they sustained severe bodily damage from the high-voltage shock.
Four other colleagues were rushed to the hospital and are now in stable condition. They are named as Regan Angga Viagedor, 27; Sylvester Dinoy Pontejon, 27; Jayson Ordeñiza Montañez, 32; and Christian Guiwanon, 30.
A quick-thinking concerned citizen immediately alerted the Mabolo Police Station. Personnel from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and a Personnel Transport Vehicle from Barangay Busay responded to the scene, facilitating the urgent transport of the victims to various medical facilities.

The driver of the crew, Dindo Antecristo Purisima, provided statements to the authorities as part of the ongoing probe. The incident raises serious questions about safety protocols for construction work conducted near live electrical infrastructure, especially during nighttime operations.
