Cebu City Workers Await Unpaid Wages, Council Pushes Resolution

Cebu City Job Order Workers Face Salary Delays, Council Urges Immediate Payment

In Cebu City, a significant number of job order (JO) workers are grappling with unpaid wages, as over 956 individuals have not received their salaries from January through March 2026. This delay has sparked urgent action from the City Council, which is pushing for a resolution to expedite the release of their compensation.

Councilor Expresses Concern for Affected Families

Councilor Harold Kendrick Go has voiced deep concern over the situation, highlighting that hundreds of families are impacted by this financial setback. "956 families are affected. This should not be prolonged, even within the government," he stated. According to the resolution, the unpaid wages span several months, including periods from October to December 2025, and January to February 2026 for some workers.

Call for Expedited Processing Across City Offices

The resolution urges Mayor Nestor Archival Sr. to direct the acceleration of salary processing through key city departments, including the Barangay Affairs Office, City Budget Office, City Accountant's Office, and City Treasurer's Office. A deadline has been set for the release of all pending salaries by March 27, 2026.

Importance of Timely Payment for Public Service Workers

Emphasis has been placed on the vital role that JO and barangay workers play in providing public services. It is argued that they deserve to receive their wages promptly, especially with the approaching Semana Santa, a time when families need to prepare for the holiday season.

Awaiting Clarification on Delay Causes

Currently, the City Treasurer's Office (CTO) is still expected to provide clarification on the reasons behind this salary delay. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the root causes and prevent similar issues in the future.
