Metro Manila Domestic Workers Set to Receive Significant Wage Increase

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has announced a substantial wage hike for domestic workers in the National Capital Region (NCR), with more than 220,000 individuals projected to benefit from this new policy. The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) has approved the increase, marking a positive development for household employees across Metro Manila.

Details of the New Wage Order

According to DOLE, the forthcoming wage order will cover an estimated 223,610 domestic workers, who will now receive a minimum wage of P7,800 per month. This represents an increase from the previous rate of P7,000, providing much-needed financial relief to this vital workforce. The breakdown includes 138,263 workers on live-in arrangements and 85,347 on stay-out settings, ensuring comprehensive coverage across different employment types.

Implementation and Compliance

The new minimum wage is set to take effect on February 7, 2026. In a radio interview, DOLE-NCR Director Sarah Buena Mirasol emphasized the importance of employer compliance, urging all employers of domestic workers in Metro Manila to adhere to the Domestic Workers Act and the updated wage order. "Our call to employers of domestic workers is to comply with the Domestic Workers Act and the minimum wage order," Mirasol stated, highlighting the legal and ethical obligations involved.

This wage adjustment aims to improve the livelihoods of domestic workers, who play a crucial role in many households. By ensuring fair compensation, the government seeks to promote better working conditions and economic stability for this sector.
