Aboitiz Airports Record 16.17 Million Passengers in 2025, Highlighting Regional Travel Surge

The airport portfolio of Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC) achieved a remarkable milestone in 2025, handling a total of 16.17 million passenger arrivals across its key regional hubs. This impressive figure underscores the escalating demand for air travel throughout the Visayas and Northern Mindanao regions, reflecting a robust recovery and growth in domestic and international connectivity.

Mactan-Cebu International Airport Maintains Leadership Position

Leading the portfolio's performance, the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) served approximately 11.6 million passengers in 2025. This represents a notable increase from the 11.3 million passengers recorded in 2024, demonstrating a steady upward trajectory. MCIA continues to solidify its status as the busiest airport in the Philippines outside of Manila, serving as a critical gateway for tourism and business in Central Visayas.

Strong Growth at Laguindingan and Bohol-Panglao Airports

The other airports under AIC's management also showed significant passenger growth:

  • Laguindingan International Airport (LIA) in Misamis Oriental recorded 2.35 million passengers in 2025.
  • Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) in Bohol handled 2.22 million passengers during the same period.

These figures highlight the airports' rising importance in their respective regions. Notably, both LIA and BPIA have seen substantial increases since their formal turnover to AIC, the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group. In April 2025, LIA recorded 1.6 million passengers, while BPIA reached 1.07 million passengers in June of the previous year, indicating rapid adoption and usage growth post-acquisition.

Enhanced Connectivity and Seamless Travel Experiences

In a statement, Rafael Aboitiz, Vice President and Head of Airports at AIC, emphasized the significance of 2025 as a landmark year. "2025 has been a landmark year for our airports as we continued to expand connectivity for both domestic and international travelers," he stated. "Passengers arriving at MCIA, LIA, and BPIA now have easier access to key destinations across Cebu, Bohol, and Northern Mindanao, making travel within the Philippines more seamless than ever."

This enhanced accessibility is driving tourism and economic activity in these areas, with the airports ranking as the sixth and ninth busiest in the country, respectively. The strategic management by AIC is facilitating smoother travel logistics, contributing to the overall development of regional economies and supporting the Philippines' aviation sector's post-pandemic rebound.
