Cebu Governor Appeals for Peaceful ASEAN Tourism Forum 2026
CEBU Governor Pamela Baricuatro has issued a heartfelt appeal to the people of Cebu, urging them to adhere to regulations and maintain order during the upcoming 45th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Tourism Forum (ATF) 2026. The event is scheduled to take place in Cebu on January 28–29, 2026, and Baricuatro emphasized the importance of showcasing Cebuano hospitality and unity to the international community.
Baricuatro's Call for Cooperation
In a statement made on January 28, 2026, Governor Baricuatro stressed that the behavior of Cebuanos during the forum will reflect directly on the province and its role as host. "It will really reflect as Cebuanos and as host, which is why we are asking that if there is any destabilization, do not get involved because it can cause trouble, especially with traffic. We hope our ASEAN event will remain peaceful since it will only last for two days," she said. This appeal was also shared on her social media platforms, where she outlined specific guidelines for the public to follow.
Guidelines for a Smooth Event
Baricuatro provided a detailed list of dos and don'ts to ensure the event proceeds without disruptions. Key among these is a request to avoid participation in any rallies, caravans, or noise barrages near the summit venues. "Please do not participate in any caravans, noise barrage or rallies during the summit. These activities can disrupt traffic, strain security, and affect the smooth flow of the event," she explained. She highlighted that supporting the organizers is crucial for maintaining safe and orderly activities throughout Cebu during the forum.
Benefits of a Successful Hosting
The governor underscored the broader implications of a well-hosted event, noting that a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere can attract more investments, boost tourism, and foster international partnerships. By being responsible and hospitable to the approximately 5,000 visitors expected from 11 countries, Cebuanos can demonstrate their unity and potentially enhance the province's global standing. Additionally, Baricuatro plans to use the forum as an opportunity to promote Cebu's tourist destinations to foreign delegates, encouraging future visits.
Event Significance and Discussions
The ASEAN Tourism Forum 2026 is not just a tourism-focused gathering; it will also serve as a platform for discussing regional and global issues, including topics related to the South China Sea and the West Philippine Sea. This adds a layer of importance to the event, making the need for a secure and orderly environment even more critical. Baricuatro's proactive measures aim to ensure that Cebu can host a successful forum that benefits both the local community and the broader ASEAN region.
