In a significant boost to Central Visayas tourism, Vietnam Airlines has officially launched its inaugural flight connecting Cebu directly to Hanoi, Vietnam. The celebratory event, held at NUSTAR in the first week of December, marks a new chapter in air connectivity and tourist exchange between the two nations.
A Celebration of New Air Links
The afternoon affair was graced by key figures from both the diplomatic and tourism sectors. Vietnam Ambassador to the Philippines Lai Thai Binh led the toast alongside Doan Vu, the General Manager of Vietnam Airlines' Philippine Branch. Ambassador Binh expressed optimism for increased tourist exchanges following this new direct connection.
Representing the local tourism industry were Department of Tourism (DOT) Director of Market Development Zeny Pallugna and DOT 7 OIC Director Geleena Dimpas. The airline's local team, including Sales Manager-Philippines Marie Salvador, was also present to welcome Cebu's travel industry movers and shakers.
Flight Details and Travel Prospects
The new service operates with the evocative tagline, “From the heart of Cebu to the soul of Hanoi.” Vietnam Airlines will fly between Cebu and Hanoi three times weekly, providing a vital direct link for both business and leisure travelers.
Hanoi, described as a city blending the old with the new, offers a rich tapestry of experiences. Travelers can explore cultural and historical relics, visit traditional craft villages, and enjoy diverse tourist attractions, all now more accessible from Central Visayas.
Concurrent Events in Cebu's Business Scene
The period also saw other notable business events in the city. Stronghold Insurance Company strengthened its Cebu presence with the inauguration of its new, expanded Cebu-Ayala office in Lahug. The event was led by Chairman David Mercado Jr. and Senior Vice President Joel Almagro, with businessman Nelson Dy acknowledged for the location.
Separately, the Cebu Travel and Tours Alliance Inc. (CTTA) held its annual induction of officers at the City Sports Club. Alan Carvajal of Travelways was elected President, with Angelita 'Baby' Dy as Vice President. Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival, who served as inducting officer, emphasized closer collaboration with the travel industry and strengthening community-based tourism.
These events collectively underscore Cebu's dynamic growth as a central hub for international travel, business, and tourism development in the Philippines.
