The Department of Education in Central Visayas (DepEd 7) has officially labeled online rumors about the abolition of the Senior High School program as false, providing clarity and reassurance to students and parents across the region.
Official Denial of False Claims
DepEd 7 Director Salustiano Jimenez explicitly confirmed to SunStar Cebu on Sunday, November 16, 2025, that the information circulating on various social media platforms is completely unfounded. In a direct message inquiry, Jimenez stated that the viral photos announcing the end of Grade 11 and Grade 12 are not authentic.
The director was firm in his assessment, labeling the widespread claim as nothing more than "fake news." However, when pressed for advice on how to deal with individuals who propagate such falsehoods, Jimenez did not offer a response.
Dissecting the Viral Falsehood
The misleading post that gained traction in several Facebook groups featured an official-looking announcement bearing the DepEd logo. It falsely declared "No Grade 11 and 12" would be implemented starting School Year 2026–2027.
The fabricated notice went further, incorrectly asserting that the scrapping of the senior high school program would commence in June 2026. To add a layer of false credibility, the post included alleged links to a list of schools that had supposedly already adhered to this non-existent government directive.
The Legal Standing of Senior High School
Contrary to the viral misinformation, Director Jimenez affirmed that the senior high school program remains fully in effect. The program's foundation is legally solid, as it is mandated by Republic Act 10533, also known as the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013.
It is important to note that while the new Matatag Curriculum is currently in its phased implementation, it does not eliminate the senior high school levels. Under Section 4 of RA 10533, the enhanced basic education program clearly includes at least one year of kindergarten, six years of elementary education, and six years of secondary education.
This secondary education is explicitly defined as comprising four years of junior high school and two years of senior high school education, ensuring the program's continuity for the foreseeable future.
