Dumanjug Mayor Bans Cellphones in Schools Starting June 29

Dumanjug Municipality in Cebu has strictly prohibited the use of mobile phones within school premises, following a directive from Mayor Efren Guntrano “Gungun” Gica. The total ban aims to improve learning and foster meaningful interaction among students in the classroom.

Implementation Details

The directive takes effect on Monday, June 29, 2026. This marks a more serious step by the local government to limit cellphone use in classrooms and encourage students to build more meaningful connections with their peers.

Under the new policy, students who bring cellphones to campus will have them confiscated. The devices will not be returned until the end of the entire school year.
