Dumanjug to enforce no-phone policy after adjustment period

Dumanjug Mayor Efren “Gungun” Gica announced on Monday, June 29, 2026, that the municipal government is united in providing an adjustment period before strictly enforcing the ban on cellphone use in schools.

Meeting with school officials

In a Facebook post, Gica revealed that he met with school heads and district supervisors from Districts 1 and 2 to discuss local education policies and new programs for students and their families. The officials shared their suggestions and observations after the first few days of implementing the policy.

According to Gica, the group agreed that parents and students need time to understand and adapt to the new policies before strict enforcement.

Phased implementation

“We all agreed that parents and students must first be given time to understand and get used to the changes,” Gica said in his Facebook post. Under the agreement, all cellphones confiscated during July will be returned, but only to the parent or legal guardian at the principal’s office. The mayor said this gives the principal an opportunity to personally explain the policy to parents.

Starting in August, confiscated cellphones will be returned only at the end of the school year.

Additional initiatives

The mayor also announced plans to provide two-way radios to all school heads to facilitate faster coordination with emergency responders. Additionally, the municipal government plans to purchase five to eight school buses to provide free transportation for students and school personnel.

Gica also announced the launch of Saturday tutorial sessions starting in July. Each session will last one hour and accommodate no more than 10 students to ensure individualized attention.

The town also plans to hold voluntary Sunday Fellowship sessions focusing on Bible reading and values formation for students.
