In a significant move to ensure uninterrupted education following the destructive earthquake that struck last year, President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr. spearheaded the launch of the Learning Continuity Space (LCS) and YAKAP at Kalinga Caravan in Bogo City, Cebu, this Monday. The event was held at the Marcelo B. Fernan-Polambato Elementary School, marking a pivotal step in the region's recovery efforts.
Direct Support for Affected Communities
The initiative aims to deliver direct learning support and essential medical services to students, teachers, and community residents impacted by the disaster. As part of the comprehensive aid package, the Office of the President provided an internet kit, 181 school bags for Kindergarten and Grade 1 students, and 800 packed goods for attendees of the event. This effort underscores the government's commitment to addressing both educational and basic needs in the aftermath of the tragedy.
Background of the Earthquake
Recall that the area was shaken by a magnitude 6.9 earthquake in September 2025, which resulted in dozens of fatalities and widespread damage. After the tragedy, President Marcos personally visited the victims to assess their conditions and requirements, demonstrating his hands-on approach to disaster response and recovery.
Long-Term Educational Goals
The Learning Continuity Space is designed to create a stable environment for students to continue their studies despite the disruptions caused by the earthquake. By integrating technology through the internet kit and providing necessary supplies, the program seeks to bridge gaps in access to education and foster resilience among the youth.
Community Engagement and Medical Aid
Simultaneously, the YAKAP at Kalinga Caravan focuses on offering medical services to the community, ensuring that health concerns are addressed alongside educational support. This holistic approach highlights the interconnectedness of well-being and learning in disaster-affected areas.
Overall, this initiative represents a critical step in rebuilding and strengthening the educational infrastructure in Cebu, with President Marcos leading efforts to restore normalcy and hope for the future.
