The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Basketball Jaguars Alumni Association has been officially established following the successful election of its officers on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the Basak campus in Cebu City.
Newly Elected Officers
Rannie Abo, a former Jaguars player from 1994 to 1999, was elected president. A business management graduate, Abo played for various commercial teams in Cebu and Manila, including Chowking-Cebu, PBL-Bingo Filipino, CBF-Western Union Kwarta-Padala Casino, Hapee, and Tribu Sugbo.
Former PBA player Roger Yap was elected vice president. Yap played for the Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs, FedEx Express, Shell, San Miguel, and Barako Bull Energy in the Philippine Basketball Association.
Completing the officer lineup are Edito Salacut (secretary), Frankie Reyes Lastimoso (treasurer), and Rey Michael Gurrea (PRO).
Induction and Blessing
A simple induction and blessing ceremony was held immediately after the election, officiated by Fr. Jorge Peligro and Fr. Ed Celiz, and attended by former USJ-R varsity players.
Goals and Advisers
The association aims to strengthen unity among former Jaguars and serve as a bridge for additional support toward grassroots sports development and the university's current basketball program. President Abo and Vice President Yap will spearhead alumni programs to help and give back to their alma mater.
Respected personalities who are former Jaguars were chosen as advisers: Jude Yburan, Engr. Antonieto P. Flores, Caesar Lee, and Pablo Yu.
Coaching Staff Overhaul
Both the collegiate and high school teams have overhauled their coaching staffs. Roger Yap has been appointed head coach of the collegiate team, while Edito Salacut returns as head coach of the high school squad.
