House Panel Greenlights 4Ps Expansion to Cover College and Vocational Education
The House Ways and Means Committee has given its approval to a proposed bill aimed at expanding the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) to encourage beneficiaries to pursue higher education. This initiative seeks to provide opportunities for college or technical-vocational courses, including enrollment in private schools.
Strengthening Social Protection Through Education
According to Committee Chairman and Marikina 2nd District Representative Miro Quimbo, this move is part of a broader government effort to enhance social protection and develop the capabilities of Filipinos through education. The expansion is designed to support families in achieving long-term economic stability.
New Program for Tertiary Education and Employment
Under the proposed legislation, a new program called the 4Ps Support to Tertiary Education and Employment Program will be established. This program will offer opportunities for children of 4Ps beneficiaries to study at colleges or technical-vocational institutions, addressing barriers to higher education.
Comprehensive Support for Underprivileged Families
House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos emphasized that the bill aims to further bolster support for low-income families. This includes assistance with tuition fees, school expenses, and other educational costs, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder academic pursuits.
The approval marks a significant step in the government's commitment to improving access to education and fostering skill development among disadvantaged communities.
