The Iloilo City Government has announced an ambitious plan to significantly expand the Iloilo City Community College (ICCC) by constructing a new campus at the historic Fort San Pedro site in City Proper.
Addressing Educational Demand
This expansion initiative was first revealed by Iloilo City Mayor Raisa Treñas in her First 100 Days Report delivered in October 2025. The primary goal is to provide accessible, free, and inclusive education to the growing number of Ilonggo youth seeking higher education opportunities.
According to Mayor Treñas' spokesperson, Joy Fantilaga-Gorzal, the current ICCC facility at the M.H. Del Pilar campus in Molo District is struggling to meet overwhelming demand. The college currently serves more than 1,300 students across four degree programs, but receives over 1,000 applicants each school year, with only about 300 able to be accommodated due to severe space constraints.
Comprehensive Campus Development
The planned Fort San Pedro campus represents a substantial upgrade in educational infrastructure for Iloilo City. The expansion will include:
- Six modern school buildings with 45 classrooms
- A dedicated administrative building
- Expanded library facilities
- Computer laboratory
- School clinic
- Virtual office space
- Covered gymnasium
Enhanced Educational Opportunities
As a local government college, ICCC operates with free tuition and miscellaneous fees for qualified indigent students through Commission on Higher Education subsidies. Faculty and staff salaries are funded through the Iloilo City Government's General Fund and Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses.
The expansion will enable ICCC to not only accept more students annually but also introduce additional industry-relevant programs including Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management, alongside other in-demand courses that align with current job market needs.
City officials emphasize that this strategic expansion will open wider educational opportunities for Ilonggo learners while significantly improving the overall learning environment within Iloilo City, creating a more robust educational ecosystem for future generations.
