Singapore School Bacolod Breaks Ground for New International Campus at Northill Gateway
BACOLOD. In a significant development for education in the region, the Singapore School Bacolod officially broke ground for the construction of its new building on Tuesday, February 10, 2026. The ceremony took place at Megaworld's expansive 53-hectare Northill Gateway township, strategically located along the Bacolod–Silay Airport Access Road.
Ceremony Led by Key Officials and School President
The ground-breaking event was a collaborative affair, led by School President Trixie Suarez, Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya, and representatives from Megaworld. Mayor Gasataya warmly welcomed the establishment of this Singaporean-based institution, expressing high hopes for its impact on the local community.
He emphasized that the presence of an international school will open up new avenues for Bacolodnon students to excel academically and compete on a global scale. "This international school will provide better opportunities for our learners who are aiming to study in bigger universities abroad," Gasataya stated. He further highlighted that the project is expected to boost the city's economic development, creating a positive ripple effect across various sectors.
Expanding Educational Footprint in the Philippines
The Bacolod campus marks the fifth Singapore School location in the Philippines, joining existing campuses in Manila, Clark, Cavite, and Cebu. Situated along Cane Street within the Northill Gateway development by Megaworld, the campus is designed as a green and sustainable environment. It aims to integrate Bacolod's unique local character while maintaining rigorous international education standards.
Trixie Suarez, who also serves as the school head of Singapore School Cebu, explained that the decision to establish a campus in Bacolod was driven by strong demand from parents seeking international education options for their children. "There's so much potential and promise here, and we're very excited to educate the children of Bacolod," she added.
Curriculum and Teacher Training Initiatives
Suarez detailed the school's commitment to training local teachers to adapt to the Singaporean curriculum for elementary levels and the Cambridge curriculum for secondary education. This approach ensures high-quality instruction while preserving the local identity of students. Through this, the school aims to help students aspire and gain admission to top universities worldwide.
She underscored the importance of collaboration among the school, the community, and the local government in shaping graduates who are globally competitive yet culturally grounded. The Bacolod campus reflects a shared vision with the city to nurture future leaders, professionals, and community builders.
Opening Timeline and Future Prospects
The school is scheduled to open for the School Year 2027–2028, with classes set to begin on July 27, 2027. This timeline allows for the completion of construction and thorough preparations to ensure a smooth launch. The project represents a major step forward in expanding access to international education in Bacolod, promising to enrich the academic landscape and support the city's growth aspirations.
