When we finally encountered eagles like Pangarap and Lakambini in captivity, his prior research came vividly to life. The tour guide explained that many of these majestic birds could never return to the wild due to injuries, as release would likely lead to their demise. My son's expression reflected both wonder and deep empathy.
We also learned about the center's operational challenges, including limited funding and governmental support. This underscored the eagles' vital role as indicators of ecosystem health. Their potential loss would disrupt natural balance, a consequence humanity cannot afford to ignore.
Cultural Learning Through Davao's Kadayawan Festival
The Kadayawan Festival here in Davao City provided another enriching educational opportunity. We explored not only the city's vibrant culture but also the diverse indigenous tribes, traditional musical instruments, and unique lifestyles that define Mindanao's rich heritage.
Everyday Learning at Home
Nevertheless, most of our learning unfolds quietly within our home through reading books, composing stories, solving mathematical problems, or pursuing my son's latest interests. I avoid coercing study when he isn't receptive. Instead, I patiently await that spark of curiosity to illuminate his eyes. When genuine interest emerges, learning flows effortlessly.
Inspired by an Aye-Aye Obsession
On one occasion, he became captivated by the aye-aye, an unusual nocturnal lemur from Madagascar known for its large eyes and distinctive elongated finger. When I asked why he liked this creature others find eerie, his innocent response touched my heart: "Aye-aye is my friend, Mommy. He is good."
This moment inspired me to create a personalized children's book based on his imagination. Utilizing AI tools for illustrations, this little book has become a cherished part of our bedtime rituals. At six years old, my son now reads fluently in English, Filipino, and Bisaya.

Reflecting on our journey, I recognize homeschooling has bestowed numerous blessings upon our family. It has provided personalized education, adaptable schedules, a secure learning environment, and, most importantly, strengthened familial bonds.
