SWU Phinma Extends Educational Lifeline to Zamboanga Youth
In a significant move to bolster educational access, Southwestern University (SWU) Phinma has officially launched its 'Hawak Kamay' Scholarship program in Zamboanga City. This initiative, forged through a partnership with the local government led by Mayor Khymer Olaso and the Division of City Schools, is designed to open doors for deserving students from the city.
A Partnership for Progress
The collaboration was formally solidified during a meeting on the afternoon of Monday, November 17. Mayor Olaso expressed profound gratitude to SWU Phinma for selecting Zamboanga City as a beneficiary, highlighting the program's potential to transform the lives of determined Zamboangueño youth. He emphasized that the core mission of this partnership is to expand educational horizons and empower students to achieve their fullest potential.
The scholarship offers a substantial 75 percent discount on tuition fees for any college program available at SWU Phinma. A key feature that sets this opportunity apart is the absence of a maintaining grade requirement, ensuring support for scholars all the way until graduation.
How to Seize the Opportunity
Mayor Olaso encouraged all eligible students to take advantage of this initiative, noting it is ideal for those aspiring for higher education but facing financial hurdles. To qualify, applicants must take a scholarship examination scheduled for Saturday, November 22, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exam will be held at the Mayor Vitaliano Agan Coliseum in Tetuan village.
The examination is free for all incoming first-year college students for the School Year 2026-2027. Applicants are required to bring their school identification card or any document proving they are currently enrolled as Grade 12 students. They must also bring a pencil (Mongol Number 2) with an eraser.
This scholarship program represents a concrete step towards making quality college education more accessible and affordable for the talented youth of Zamboanga City.
