A 15-year-old student from Cebu has become a national symbol of courage after his heroic actions during a devastating typhoon not only saved dozens of lives but also paved the way for his future career.
Bravery in the Face of Typhoon Tino
On November 4, 2025, as Typhoon Tino battered the province of Cebu, Jayboy Magdadaro, a Grade 9 student from Jubay Integrated School in Liloan, displayed extraordinary courage. Ignoring the dangerous floodwaters and powerful winds, the teenager embarked on a one-man rescue mission from morning until afternoon.
Using a small boat and life vests, Jayboy successfully saved an estimated 50 people, including children and the elderly, from the rising waters. His selfless act was a powerful demonstration of his innate desire to serve his community, a trait that did not go unnoticed.
A Natural Helper with a Big Dream
According to his mother, Alma Magdadaro, Jayboy has always been a helpful person. She shared that her son is known for assisting the elderly and running errands for them. Even though his efforts during the typhoon left him exhausted and feverish, his determination to help never wavered.
In an interview, Jayboy, the youngest of five siblings, revealed that his primary inspiration is his urge to help others. He is already an active youth volunteer in the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK). This recent act of bravery is a significant step toward his ultimate goal: to become a Criminologist. He aspires to officially serve and protect his community through this profession.
Dreams Realized Through Double Scholarship Support
Jayboy's heroism was immediately recognized by local leaders, who moved quickly to support his academic ambitions. His dream of studying Criminology is now within reach, thanks to immediate and concrete financial support.
Atty. Daniel Francis Arguedo, the barangay captain of Mabolo in Cebu City, awarded Jayboy a full scholarship for his chosen Criminology course. This scholarship covers all school fees and includes a monthly allowance of P3,000.
In a show of overwhelming support, the Liloan local government also granted him a separate full scholarship for his college education. This dual support system stands as a strong testament to his unwavering spirit and ensures that his academic future is secure.
For Filipinos, Jayboy Magdadaro is more than just a brave teenager; he is a beacon of hope. His future in Criminology promises that his passion for service will continue to grow, ultimately allowing him to fulfill his mission of protecting others on a professional level.
