University of the Visayas Student Triumphs at Regional PRISAA Oratorical Contest
The University of the Visayas (UV) in Cebu is celebrating a momentous achievement as its student, Macky G. Campos, secured first place in the Regional Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) Oratorical Competition. The event took place on March 14, 2026, at the Harder Gymnasium of Holy Name University in Bohol Province, drawing participants from across Region 7.
A Journey from Cesafi to PRISAA Victory
Macky Campos, a BS-Psychology student, earned his spot in the regional competition after a stellar performance at the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) Season 2025–2026 Oration Contest on February 27, 2026. Representing UV, he advanced to the PRISAA Region 7 Oratorical Competition, where he faced off against four other formidable contenders.
Under the expert guidance of Coach Mary Grace N. Magan, Macky delivered a powerful and inspiring speech that captivated the judges and audience alike. The competition's theme, "Inspiring Dreams, Igniting Passion, Innovating Pathways to the Olympics," provided a platform for him to demonstrate his oratory prowess and persuasive abilities.
Coach and Student Reflect on the Challenging Win
Coach Mary Grace Magan expressed immense pride and gratitude for the victory, despite the hurdles faced during preparation. "As a coach, I am beyond thankful that, despite our short preparation for the PRISAA Regional Competition, sudden changes in our piece, and Macky being under pressure, God answered our prayers," she said. "I was overjoyed when the University of the Visayas was declared champion, and Macky stood out among four strong contenders."
Macky shared his personal experience, describing the competition as both challenging and meaningful. "Competing in the Private Schools Athletic Association Regional 2026 in Bohol was a challenging yet meaningful experience for me, especially with the last-minute challenge of delivering the original version of our piece," he recounted. "Standing on stage with four strong contestants, I felt intense pressure as each of them delivered their speeches with confidence. Despite this, my coach remained very supportive and continuously encouraged me to trust my preparation. The experience strengthened my confidence and dedication as a speaker."
Other Winners and Future Prospects
The competition also recognized other talented orators. Marione P. Fernan from Cristal e-College claimed second place, while Anthony Bruce Cabuenas from Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT-U) took third. Macky's victory marks a historic milestone for UV, as he becomes the first student from the university to win this prestigious title at the PRISAA regional level.
As the champion, Macky will now represent Region 7 at the National PRISAA Games 2026-2027 Oratorical Competition, scheduled to be held in Bacolod, Negros Occidental. His achievement serves as a powerful testament to the values of faith, prayer, and determination, proving that with hard work, the impossible can become possible.
Inspiring the Community and Beyond
This milestone is not just a personal triumph for Macky Campos but also an inspiration to the entire UV community and youth aspiring to excel in oratory. It highlights the importance of supportive coaching, rigorous preparation, and resilience in the face of pressure. The University of the Visayas continues to foster talent and excellence, setting a benchmark for educational institutions in the region.
