Cebu Province Purchases Anti-Venom for Cobra Bites
Cebu Province Buys Cobra Anti-Venom

In 2012, Ronaldo Aventurado was bitten by a Philippine cobra (Banakon) in Cebu. At that time, no anti-venom was available locally, and victims typically had only hours to live. Fortunately, the late Jessup Bahinting, a pilot and small-plane owner, volunteered to fly to Camiguin to obtain the medicine, saving Aventurado's life.

New Antivenom Stock Now Available

For the first time, the Cebu Province has purchased a supply of polyvalent antivenom, which treats multiple cobra species, unlike the previous single-type medicine. This will be provided free to patients under Governor Pam Baricuatro's health program.

Starting this week, the antivenom is available at provincial hospitals in Balamban, Bogo, Danao, and Carcar. Twelve other provincial hospitals can also access the supply if needed, ensuring wider coverage across Cebu.

Recognition for Key Contributors

Governor Baricuatro thanked Board Member Dr. Stanley Caminero and provincial consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan for facilitating the procurement. The initiative ensures that future cobra bite victims, like Aventurado, can receive prompt, free treatment.
